Décharge de Rebut Toxique is an augmented reality public art project built for smart phone mobile devices. The public can simply download and launch the Layar Augmented Reality Browser app on their iPhone or Android and aim the devices’ camera at the area around various sites in Paris. The application uses geolocation software to superimpose computer generated three-dimensional art objects, enabling the public to see the work integrated into the physical location as if it existed in the real world.
With locations at the Eiffel Tower, the Musée du Louvre, the Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo and La Gaîté Lyrique, Décharge de Rebut Toxique consists of sprawling radiotoxic waste dumps at a time when the world is reconsidering its policies on nuclear energy after the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.

- To view the work on any late modle iPhone or Android, go to Paris, enter http://m.layar.com/open/toxicwaste in your web browser or download any free code reader app (http://redlaser.com) now, press the scan button and aim at this code
- If you don’t have the free Layar Augmented Reality Browser installed, you will be prompted to do so (http://layar.com)
- Once Layar is installed, read the code again and the project will launch
